In 2015 we featured Robert as one of Blue Wave Orthodontics’ remarkable patients. At the time, we highlighted that Robert (we’re used to calling him Bob) had achieved the level of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. The article at NHL.com highlighting Robert’s ongoing achievements and his latest honor mentions, “Schofner has spent time volunteering with Metropolitan Ministries, Tampa General Hospital, and the Judeo Christian Health Clinic. The biggest change Schofner hopes to see in the community is a rise in high school graduation rates amongst male students.” Do take a moment to read this fantastic post about Robert Schofner. He’s a remarkable patient and community hero!Robert received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, and will donate $25,000 to the Hillsborough Education Foundation and was given a scholarship grant of $25,000 to assist in his educational pursuits. Way to go Robert!Dr. Randy Feldman, Chief Smile Officer of Blue Wave Orthodontics wrote in an email to Robert, “This is a wonderful expose of you, Robert. However, I feel you are even more special because you have a very engaging personality along with all your accomplishments. Your volunteering is exemplary! You are truly….a leader today and tomorrow!”Dr. Feldman was a Lightning Community Hero in 2015 and was able to donate the $50,000 award to five local non-profits: More Health, Inc; Voices for Children; Humane Society of Tampa Bay; The Vincent House; and Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance. We so appreciate Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, his wife, Penny, and the Vinik Family Foundation which launched the Lightning Community Hero program. The good that continues to come to the Tampa Bay community and its non-profits is far-reaching and unprecedented.
