2016 College Scholarship Winners

Each year Dr. Randy Feldman, Chief Smile Officer of Feldman Orthodontics, awards an outstanding graduating senior, or two in this case, with a $1,500 scholarship to the college of their choice. An essay competition is held for graduating seniors and a winner selected for their response to the question, “What a smile means to me!” This year there were 65 entries, and many great essays to read.
Among the requirements for this unique annual scholarship are an outstanding essay, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, a minimum SAT score of 1100 or minimum ACT score of 24, letter of recommendation from their school, and letter of acceptance to college or vocational-technical institution. Scholarship winners were chosen from applications of graduating seniors from Hillsborough or Pasco County public high schools.

Dr. Randy Feldman has awarded scholarships to 52 graduating seniors from local public high schools during the past twenty six years. This scholarship is given to outstanding graduating seniors in recognition of their potential to both excel in their future endeavors and to become a contributing member of their community.

This year’s winning essays of the $1500 scholarship were awarded to two outstanding seniors: Shalini Jose, a graduating senior from Strawberry Crest High School, and Carlee Leathem, a graduating senior from Plant High School. To celebrate their achievements, Dr. Feldman and his staff treated the winners to an awards dinner at the Feldman Orthodontics South Tampa Office; which was held on Thursday, April 21, 2016. In order to keep the ambition alive and to prepare for college and beyond, he also presented each winner with a copy of the book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss.
Shalini was accepted into the University of South Florida and plans to study Medicine. She hopes to become and emergency room physician in the future.
Carlee was accepted to University of North Florida and plans to study Business/Entrepreneurship. Her dream is to become a horsetrainer and own her own riding stable.
Dr. Feldman strongly believes in giving back to the Tampa Bay community and is committed to recognizing those individuals with the potential to continue with that legacy of service. Dr. Feldman adds, “We are thrilled to present these scholarships to Shalini and Carlee and wish them the best of success in their future endeavors. We enjoyed meeting them and know they will continue to do great things.”
