Correcting Crossbite

Randy M. Feldman D.D.S, M.S., Chief Smile Officer of Feldman Orthodontics explains the various forms of crossbite and the importance of early correction in this video and blog. You may have heard the term “crossbite.” This can take several forms and an orthodontist can correct all. Here’s the first form—an anterior cross bite. That means the anterior front of the mouth, where the upper teeth are behind the lower teeth. So, this is called an “anterior crossbite”. In the video Dr. Feldman demonstrates, “here’s your upper teeth, here’s your lower teeth, and the upper teeth are behind the lower teeth.” Next up, the “posterior crossbite”, Dr. Feldman visually explains, “if these are the side teeth, and now your teeth on the side, where with the upper teeth are inside the lower teeth. That is also a cross bite just posterior on the side in back versus in the front.” You could have a crossbite that’s even farther out of whack, but those are different kinds of cross bites. Dr. Feldman’s advice is; basically you need to fix the crossbites because the jaw tends to shift and grows asymmetrically. If the jaw continues to grow asymmetrically, which means crooked, then you have to have surgery later on… 16 years of age or older to correct it. So, by correcting a crossbite early on… at 7, 8, 9,10 years of age… you definitely can avoid pulling teeth and you definitely can avoid jaw surgery later on. Feldman Orthodontics 1773 W Fletcher Ave. Tampa 33612 Florida Tel: (813) 968-2483 or 3739 W Neptune St. Tampa 33629 Florida Tel: (813) 254-8005.To learn more about Randy M.
